NaNoWrimo – Day 3/30 – Writing Buddies Accepted!!

It’s day three of NaNoWrimo 2013.  Usually I’ve already burnt out and killed my piece of garbage novel somwhere around the 4,000 word mark, gotten frustrated that I wrote a complete bunch of crap and given up.  Wow, I suck!

But not this year.  My story still sucks, I have plot holes, unintentional tense changes and a 15 page prologue that’s about 14 and 1/2 pages too long but it involves pirates.  Lots of pirates and as cliche as I write them it’s fun talking like a pirate…or writing like one anyway.

Just a motivation push to all participants, keep on writing!!!

11/1 – Flash Fiction Entry – Rage

Please use the phrase: Please call me back

300 words or less

Hunter stared as he spun his wedding ring on the white formica desk and watched it spin until it slowed down rattled flat.  He rubbed his eyes and sighed.   He opened the desk drawer to the left of him, looking at the divorce papers from his wife.  He had not signed them yet.  He picked up the phone, started dialing her but stopped.  Hunter’s boss leaned out of the doorway to is office.

“Come into my office Myers.” said Mr. Donatelli.

Hunter got up and walked into his boss’s office.

“Sit down”, Mr. Donatelli said.

Hunter sat down.

“What’s going on Jim?” Hunter said.

“You screwed it, you completely screwed it.” Mr. Donatelli said. “The Independence Bank loan, they pulled the deal because you didn’t file the paperwork in time.  They went with Caleb, they closed with them.  What the hell happened?”

“I was in traffic.  I couldn’t get to the county clerk.  I left you a message.  I called Pete asking him to help since he was also on the account.” Hunter said.

“Pete didn’t say anything about it.  Nonetheless,   have to let you go Hunter.  This is crippling to us”

“But Jim…”

“No…pack your desk and go”

Tears began to well up in Hunter’s eyes.  He gritted his teeth and walked out of Jim’s office.

“Hey man”, Pete said when he saw Hunter.

“You prick”, Hunter said.

He ran to Pete and punched him in the mouth knocking him down.  Hunter grabbed the phone receiver and began bashing Pete’s face in with it.

“I left you six messages…please call me back, please call me back, Pete please call me back!” Hunter shouted and hit Pete with each utterance.

The office security team converged on Hunter and dragged him off of Pete whose face was bloody and beaten.

10/28 – Flash Fiction Entry – Thief

Tom sat in the back of the deli and watched the tape.

“Goddamit.” Tom said out loud in the empty room.

He wringed his fingers and put his hands against his forehead.

He pressed the rewind button and watched it again.  Each time Tom left the counter, Jason would sneak a few dollars out of the register and put them in his pocket.  Tom watched the video for the fourth time then walked out of the back room.  At the counter Jason was slicing ham for a customer.

“Hey Merle.” Tom said and waved.

“Hey Tom, what’s doin’?” Merle answered.

“Nothing much, just the ham today?”

“Yep”

Jason took the meat off the slicer and weighed it.  He pressed a button, took the sticker and stuck it on the paper.  Tom watched Jason walk from the scale to the register.  Jason rang it up.

“That’s 5 and a quarter.” Jason said.

Merle handed him exact change and took his ham.

“See you guys.” Merle said.

Merle walked out.  Tom motioned for Jason to follow him.

“Come in the back kiddo.” Tom said.

“Sure Tom, what’s up” Jason said.

“Just come on.”

“Ok, do I need a lawyer?” Jason asked jokingly.

“No you don’t.” Tom said.

Jason sat at the table in the back and saw the video.  The images on the tape incriminated him.

“I don’t know what to say Tom, I’m so sorry.” Jason said.

“There’s nothing to say Jason.  You’re fired.” Tom said.

Jason took off his apron and handed it to Tom.  Tom looked down at Jason’s pockets.  He removed the singles and placed them on the table.

“Get out.” Tom said.

Jason walked out the back door as Tom picked up the money.  Tom locked the back door and returned to the front of the deli.
